Ripples as US rapper films Lagos slums

 

American rapper, Rick Ross, is once again causing a stir in Nigeria. This time he is not making fans scream out his name in ecstasy from his rapping prowess, but rather generating controversy with his Nigerian version of the music video, Hold me Back, released earlier this week.

The video, directed by DRE and SpiffTV films, uses Lagos to illustrate Ross’ lyrics. The video currently making waves online shows Lagos at its worse.

Probably shot in one or several of the slums in Lagos, it shows pictures of children in the slum, gun-trotting policemen   and crowded buses in motion, with conductors hanging onto the door.

One of the comments that have greeted the video is that Ross has succeeded in ‘washing Nigeria’s and indeed Lagos’ dirty linen in the public’. Although the song itself, which he begins with ‘These niggas want hold me back’, may not be particularly talking about issues in Nigeria, the argument borders on why he chose to use such pictures in the video.

While some have praised him for his honest and perhaps unbiased portrayal of the Nigerian situation, others have continued to criticise the rapper for ‘insulting’ the country.

Mikel Obi racially abused on twitter after defensive error against juventus.Deletes twitter account; Chelsea calls police

Mikel Obi today deleted his Twitter account after he was racially abused for 'costing' Chelsea victory in the opening match of their Champions League defence against Juventus on Wednesday Sept. 19th.

The match ended 2-2 and Chelsea fans blamed Mikel for giving the ball away just ten minutes before time and also not preventing the equalizing goal. After the end of the game, Chelsea fans racially abused Mikel on his Twitter account @Mikel12Official, prompting the Super Eagles midfielder to delete the account which he set up just a few months back.

Chelsea said they have informed the police after being made aware of the racist Tweets. A statement read:
 " We've been made aware of racist tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and abhorrent. We've informed the police and support taking the strongest possible action."

Update: The dead baby in the suitcase was his

Its no longer news that the man in the picture above was caught with a dead baby in a suitcase some days ago.

Now the police are saying that dead child found inside the man's suitcase was actually the man's son. The man has been identified as an Abuja-based welder named Usman Inuwa and the dead baby as Goodluck Inuwa.

Usman admitted killing the child but didn't say why other than the child's mother left them a few weeks before the murder. Neighbours think he might have killed the little boy by mistake or while high on drugs. The police are investigating.

Fatal Accident In Ijebu Ode Claims 30 Lives

 
Over 30 people lost their lives yesterday Tuesday September 18th in a ghastly accident involving a truck, two commercial buses and several motorcycles at Mobalufon junction along the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

The fatal accident occurred when a truck carrying fertilizer lost control due to over speeding, while trying to evade arrest from the police who were chasing him for driving against traffic. The truck unfortunately crashed into two commercial buses dropping passengers at the Ijebu-Ode junction, killing all passengers inside one bus, some already out of another bus and some okada men trying to pick up passengers at the bus stop.

At least 30 bodies were removed from the scene by the Ogun State Accident Rescue Team.

The fertiliser trailer which caused the accident was almost set ablaze by a mob but quickly stopped by the policemen around. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Kourtney Kardashian gives birth to daughter Penelope in front of reality show cameras, pulls baby out with her own hands!

      Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to her second child in front the cameras for the season finale of "Keeping up with the Kardashians" on Sunday.
And when the magic moment came, the 33-year-old reached down and pulled infant Penelope Scotland Disick out with her own hands.
The oldest Kardashian sister used the same hands-on tactic when she gave birth to her son Mason, now 2.
"It's such a magical feeling to say hello to my baby girl," Kourtney cooed while cradling her new bundle of joy.
"Kourtney just loves to pull out her own children," Khloe quipped.
The delivery room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles was packed with Kourtney's kin, including little Mason, sisters Kim and Khloe, her brother Rob, half sibs Kendall and Kylie, mom Kris Jenner and longtime beau Scott Disick.

Suspected Boko Haram members wipe out an entire family in Kano

 Four men suspected to be members of Boko Haram have shot dead a member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, his wife, his 3year old daughter and his crippled brother staying with him.

Police sources said today that four men arrived on the bikes and entered the home of the yet to be identified NSCDC officer in Hotoron Gabas district. They locked the entire family in a room and shot them dead.

After the killing, the men jumped back on their bikes and sped off.

Nigerian Actress Ngozi Nwosu Critically Sick & Bedridden

Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu is presently in a critical health state as she is very sick and bedridden in her home in Lagos State Nigeria following a kidney leakage illness.
Sources close to the veteran actress said she has been receiving treatment in a private hospital for weeks now for kidney failure. The actress is said to be bedridden and unable to talk properly.

A tourist peers into the Darvaza Gates Of Hell gas crater in the Karakum Desert, Turkmenistan. The eerie cavern has been on fire for more than 40 years. It was discovered in 1971 by Soviet geologists when the ground beneath their drilling rig suddenly collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 70 metres (230 ft). As the huge crater was filled with potentially poisonous natural gas the decision was made to set it alight. Scientists expected it to burn itself out within a few days, but the fire is still as fierce as ever.
