Weep not for Cynthia but her killers, says family

Friends, family members and neighbors of the late Cynthia Osokogu last night gathered at the St Morumba Catholic Church, Jos. They were there for a grim but necessary rite, which will culminate in her remains being interred in Delta State on Friday.
The service of songs was a somber affair, with many battling tears.  Men and women in black attires stated filing into the church around 6pm.
The service was officiated by the parish priest of St Murumba, Jos , Revd. Father Philip Dung. He was assisted by Revd. Father Peter Ucun, the principal, St Murumba College, Jos.

Gunmen attack NYSC members in Taraba


Gunmen on Thursday attacked some of those observing the one-year National Youth Service Corps scheme in Taraba State.
The attack on the corp members was carried out behind the Federal Government Girls College in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The gunmen took with them the monthly allowance of the corp members, which runs into thousands of naira, a report said.
The bandits stormed the Family House of the Redeemed Christian Corpers Fellowship, held the corps members hostage for hours and took with them laptops and about 24 mobile telephone sets.
The gunmen  gained entrance into the corps members lodge through a toilet in the female wing of the building.
One of the victims said: “We are about 20 corps members in the lodge last when it happened and all our phones were taken away.

Bill Clinton gives thumping endorsement to Barack Obama


Bill Clinton endorses Barack Obama for a second term with a speech at the Democratic national convention in Charlotte, formerly one of Barack Obama's most bitter critics inside the Democratic party, has thrown all his prestige and popularity unequivocally behind the president's bid to hold on to the White House.
In an old-fashioned barnstorming speech to the Democratic national convention – much of it ad-libbed and considerably longer than the prepared text – Clinton boiled the differences between Obama and his Republican opponent Mitt Romney to a simple, essential point.
The choice in November, he said, would be between whether voters wanted to be part of a "we're all in this together society" or a "winner take all, you're on your own society".
Obama, who flew into Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday afternoon, appeared on stage at the end and embraced Clinton. The delegates, who cheered and applauded throughout the speech, chanted: "We are fired up."

Woman bites off police man's ear (Graphic photo)

A 36-year old woman, Mrs. Gloria Ugonnaya, has been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, charged with assault.
She allegedly bit off the ear of a police Corporal, Odion Oifoghe, attached to Sabo Police Division, Yaba in order to evade arrest.

 Dare and Deola Art Alade welcomed a new bundle of joy on August 3rd and the baby's name is Atinuke Tintin Art Alade.

We performed major surgery for ruptured appendix on Mrs Jonathan -Horst Schmidt Klinik

First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan was in a bad state of health when she arrived at the hospital last week.  says a spokesperson for the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany. The hospital’s official, who confirmed that initial records showed that Mrs. Patience Jonathan had earlier been treated for food poisoning in Nigeria before being brought to the Horst Schmidt Klinik, however, said she was responding to treatment after she had undergone a major surgery for a ruptured appendix to remove the poisons in her intestine.

North: Terrorists bomb MTN, Glo, Airtel base stations

Telecoms services were on Wednesday disrupted in Borno, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe and Kano states following the bombing of telecoms base stations by suspected terrorists.
It was gathered that base stations belonging to MTN, Globacom, Airtel might have been affected in the multiple attacks that jolted Borno, Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe states.
